Plant of the Month

The Plant of the Month is the Dahlia! 

  • The dahlia was named after Andreas Dahl who was Carl Linnaeus' student.

  • It is the official flower of San Francisco. 

  • It is originally from Mexico and is also its national flower.

  • The dahlia has many transposons (jumping genes) which contribute to its large diversity.
