Dino of the Month

The Dino of the Month is The Chicken!

Chicken
  • The chicken is a domesticated fowl originating in the Indian subcontinent.

  • The average lifespan of a chicken is 5-10 years but the oldest chicken was 16 years old before it died of heart failure (Guinness Book of World Records)

  • In Hindu cremation ceremony, chickens were used as channels for evil spirits during the ceremony. If any spirits were present they would go into the chicken and not possess the family members.

  • According to The Telegraph, the Chicken is the closest living relative to the T-Rex alongside ostriches when analyzing fossilized T-rex protein. Other similarities between birds and dinosaurs include having feathers, the structure of their joints, and having a wishbone. More info can be seen here.
